Dr. John E. Dreslin is a native of New York City. He attended Wagner College on Staten Island and then moved on to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, graduating with a D.M.D. degree in 1967. He spent two years on active duty with the United States Navy with the rank of Lieutenant, stationed in North Carolina. Following his term in the navy he entered private practice, and has been practicing in the southeastern Connecticut area since 1970.
Dr. Dreslin was awarded a Fellowship by the American Endodontic Society in 1976, and a Mastership in 1992. The AES is a society of general practitioners interested in root canal therapy. He has served on their board of directors for many years and has been Fellowship chairman since 1987, evaluating root canal cases submitted for Fellowship from dentists around the world. In 1993 he was awarded their Communicator of the Year for his published articles.
In 1998 Dr. Dreslin was made a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. Only about 10% of dentists nationwide have achieved this distinction. This award requires a minimum of 500 hours of continuing education in the field of dentistry, followed by a full day’s examination. The Academy is composed of dentists in general practice whose mission is to encourage excellence in dentistry through continued education.
In 1990 Dr. Dreslin earned a certificate in Orthodontics/Orthopedics from the United States Dental Institute, and after continued study another in 1996 from the Mid American Orthodontic Society.
Dr. Dreslin is a member in good standing of the American Dental Association, Connecticut State Dental Association, and New London County Dental Society. He continues an active schedule of attendance at conferences and seminars to stay up to date in the ever-changing field of Dental Health.
His hobbies include music and art. He is currently music director of the Connecticut Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and has participated in over 70 productions as conductor, musician or actor. He has received 9 Eugene O’Neill Awards for excellence in Community Theater. Several of his art works are on display at the office. He resides in Stonington with his wife Monika.
