This 58 year old male patient was faced with total tooth loss as a result of chronic periodontal disease. He did not wish to have any removable appliances in his mouth. Fortunately, it is now possible to replace even a full dentition with non removable teeth through the use of implants. As a rule, an implant (acting as an artificial root) requires from three to four months to be integrated into the bone of the host site. The case was performed over a period of several years, involving a planned series of extractions and implant placements so that at no time was a removable appliance necessary, even during the interim healing stages of treatment. The patient was extremely pleased with the aesthetics and natural feeling of the result, and is able to eat an unrestricted diet without fear of displacement of the appliance or unnatural palatal coverage and interference with normal speech. In many cases implants can be placed by Waterford Dental Associates in office.
